From beautiful landscapes to interactive tours of some of New Zealand’s iconic locations, Derek has developed methods to capture the smallest detail thanks to his in-depth knowledge of digital workflows.
I first picked up a camera in 2003, diving straight into the digital world. I’m a confessed uber-geek, and this has allowed me to experiment and push the boundaries of photography beyond the ‘normal’ landscape, artwork, or commercial photoshoot. Looking at a scene and envisaging the result for a client is essential in reducing costs and sticking within budget.
Being a geek has allowed me to look at how photographs can be used in ways other than the normal ‘flat’ image used to advertise a location. 360-degree immersive tours, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and 3D modeling all need photos as a starting point, which is challenging, but I love a challenge.
Being able to create websites is a huge bonus for my clients as I can provide a web service from start to finish or work on the content needed with their designer.
Most of all, I enjoy what I do! I love traveling around New Zealand and have been lucky enough to visit some beautiful locations.
